Course Outline:

The course challenges students to tackle the big questions about life and our existence. Students will robustly handle complex theories, pulling them apart and reconstructing them into coherent arguments.

The Philosophy element approaches ultimate questions concerning the creation of the universe, the abstract works of ancient Greek philosophers, the concept of God and the challenges to belief and religion in the modern world.

The Ethics element tackles theories of morality  and ethical responsibility and applies them to real life dilemmas. Topics include controversial modern issues such as euthanasia, Business Ethics and Sexual Ethics.

In the Development of Christian thought unit, learners have the opportunity to undertake a systematic study of key concepts within Christianity. Learners will explore religious beliefs, values and teachings, their interconnections, how they have developed historically and how they are presently discussed.

Skills / Aptitudes required to be successful in this course :

Critical thinking, analysis, evaluation, essay skills, debate and dialogue, developing theories and concepts. The exams are essay based, so students must feel confident in producing extended pieces of writing and reading academic texts.

Any career that requires handling concepts, critical thinking, and problem solving. Law, politics, journalism, theology, international relations to name but a few.
