Aims and Objectives

  • To provide a learning environment that encourages reading and active learning.

  • To have a vibrant role in developing a culture that promotes wider reading-motivated readers and learners for life.

  • Provide a wider and inclusive range of resources to support learning and teaching throughout the school

  • To provide a place for collaborative learning, and creativity and for developing independent research and information literary skills.

Resources and support:

  • Our extensive fiction and non-fiction collections support reading for pleasure and reading for learning. Also, books are available to support all subjects and cater to various ability levels.

  • We also have access to general magazines and educational Review Magazines on various subjects.

  • Computer workstations are available to support students’ study needs. Use is monitored and expected for school and study-related purposes only.

  • The library organises several events in partnership with teaching staff and external organisations throughout the year including author visits and participation in the Yoto Carnegie Book Award shadowing.

  • We provide learning and information literacy skills sessions to enhance students’ research and information retrieval and critical thinking skills.

  • All students at Hendon School are automatically enrolled in the library and can take out up to 4 books for 2 weeks.

  • We would like all students to treat books with care and return books on time or renew them. If an item goes beyond its loan date with no renewal requested or granted, we will issue reminders to students.

  • Librarian is always available to help you find the resources that best suit your needs. Just come to the desk and ask!
