School Life

The SEND faculty has a long tradition of promoting achievement for all young people who join the Hendon School community.  The staff of our SEND Faculty work with students, parents and colleagues across the school to ensure that all young people at Hendon have the best learning environment to allow them to learn and develop to their fullest potential.

We consist of a number of Learning Support Assistants (LSA’s) and two specialist teachers. Our students attend mainstream classes and are supported by our Learning Support Assistants in lessons in small groups. We also, on occasion, provide support to small groups outside of the mainstream setting.

Staff have extensive experience of working with students with a wide variety of additional needs, including;

  • Cognition and Learning

  • Communication and Interaction

  • Behavioural, Emotional and Social Development

  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs

We have excellent links with external agencies to support our students. We regularly liaise with local Educational Psychology Services, Sensory Support Services, Communication and Social Interaction service, Occupational Therapist services, Speech and Language Services, Health Services, ASC Advisor, Advisors for the Visually Impaired and Social Workers.
