Music at Hendon
At Hendon, our music curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, develop confidence, and foster a lifelong appreciation for music. Through a broad and inclusive programme of study, we aim to engage all students—regardless of background or ability—in the joy of making, understanding, and experiencing music.
Key Stage 3 provides students with a strong foundation in performing, composing, and appraising. They explore a wide range of musical genres, styles, and traditions, including Western Classical music, popular music, world music, and film music. Students develop essential skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking through practical activities, ensuring that all learners can access and enjoy music.
At Key Stage 4, students build upon their KS3 knowledge, refining their performance and composition skills while deepening their theoretical understanding. Through the WJEC Eduqas GCSE in Music, students explore four key areas of study:
Musical Forms and Devices, Music for Ensemble, Film Music and Popular Music
We take an integrated approach to performance, composition, and appraising, helping students to see the connections between these disciplines. Our curriculum not only supports academic achievement but also nurtures transferable skills such as digital literacy, communication and creativity. These real-world skills prepare students for future careers in music and beyond.
Music is for everyone, and we are committed to making our curriculum accessible to all learners. Whether through classroom activities, peripatetic lessons, extracurricular ensembles, or music technology, we ensure that every student can engage with and enjoy music in a way that suits their interests and abilities.
