CAT Tests for 2024  - tbc December 2023

CATS admissions test for 2024 will take place on 2nd December 2023. If you have not received your invitation by Tuesday 22nd November please contact VIP@hendonschool.co.uk

As part of the admission arrangements, all children applying for places at Hendon School take written tests in non-verbal reasoning. Attendance to the test is a requirement for admission to the school. There is no pass mark for these tests. Hendon is a mixed ability school and we use the test results to ensure we admit children of all abilities. No preparation is required for the tests.  You will be invited to attend a specific test session, once application lists are released by Barnet in November. Please ensure your email and other contact information is up to date at www.barnet.gov.uk/school-admissions.

We understand that choosing a secondary school for your child can be a difficult decision. At Hendon School we offer a full support package to ensure that transition is as smooth as possible.

If you live in Barnet you will be able to apply for your child’s school place online www.barnet.gov.uk/school-admissions or by telephoning the Schools Admissions Team on 020 8359 2000. You will need to complete a Common Transfer Form; this form will take between 10-15 minutes to complete. Once completed you can submit it online, the final date for applications is usually 31st October, prior to year of admission.

You will be able to review the results of your application online on the evening of the 1st March.

All students who apply to Hendon School will be invited in for a CAT (Cognitive Ability Test) in December. In order to be offered a place at Hendon School, students must have completed this test as it is used for banding students as per our admissions policy.

Once places are offered on the 1st March new students and parents joining in September will able to use our dedicated transition email VIP@hendonschool.co.uk

Once you are offered a place at Hendon School we want to ensure that we work together and support each other to make sure that each student achieves their potential.

Year 7 2023/2024

In May and June, our Year 7 transition team visit most primary schools to meet with the students and their Year 6 teachers. All students are invited for an interview with their parents in June. The interviews are conducted by the Senior Leadership Team and Transition staff. It is an opportunity to share information, complete essential paperwork; as well as go through uniform and expectations. For those students with additional needs we may arrange further visits to support the transition process.

For those students who are transferring from a school where there are only one or two students moving to Hendon School we invite these students to a VIP (Very Important Person) picnic, the day before transition day. The picnic will be on (date and time tbc). It is an opportunity for the students to meet key staff, make friends and get a feel for the school before they attend the transition day. Parents/carers are also welcome to attend the picnic.

Transition day for those starting in September 2024 will  be on (date tbc). During this day students will get to meet their form tutors and members of their form class. They take part in a range of activities and lessons culminating in a year group activity at the end of the day. This day is to give students an opportunity to experience what secondary school is like as well as helping to settle their nerves.  We run a parents’ coffee morning on transition day, as we understand that it is not just the students who are nervous.
