16 to 19 Tuition Fund 2021-2022

Guidance

The funding is being provided to support small group tuition for 16 to 19 students in English, Mathematics and other courses where learning has been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Providers should prioritise support for students who have not achieved a grade 4 in English and/or Mathematics.

All supported students must be on a 16 to 19 study programme.

Providers need to consider what will be most effective for their students, considering students’ needs and local circumstances.

Providers have flexibility to decide the most appropriate approach to resourcing the delivery of small group tuition supported through the fund.

Providers should also have regard to the needs of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), particularly where they have experienced additional disruption to learning as a result of their specific needs and disabilities

Rationale

To provide additional support for students who have been significantly impacted by school closures and periods of self-isolation. There are a number of key groups that will require extra support this academic year. These are outlined below.

Target groups

Students who are identified as pupil premium

Students who have not yet achieved a pass in English and/or maths

Students who did not achieve a grade 5 or above in English and or maths

Interventions

My Tutor Programme

Students who are resisting GCSE English or maths in year 12 and year 13 will receive 10 hours of one to one tutoring from My Tutor. This will support them in being successful in their external examination in the summer term.

In house tuition programme

Students in the target group will be offered tuition in small groups from their subject teachers. This will allow them to be supported by the staff that know the individuals and their gaps in learning. Each student will be offered support in at least one subject. Each group will be of 3-4 students and will have weekly sessions for 10 weeks. There would be 25 groups in year 13 and 30 groups in year 12.
