BTEC Level 3 Travel and Tourism

“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” 

This course is suitable for anyone interested in the Travel and Tourism industry with a possible desire to enter employment in that area. You should enjoy using computers to research and produce material. You must also be prepared to search for other sources, such as, books, brochures, atlases. It is an interesting subject to anyone who enjoys travelling. 

Two Year course, equivalent to one A-level

Entry requirements: 5 GCSEs at A*-C or Merit/Distinction at BTEC Level 2, Two C’s in English
Goes well with any AS or A2 subject qualifications, however, it is not advised that this subject should be taken with more than one other coursework based subject due to strict coursework deadlines
Students must complete six units, four are core and two are optional units. The Diploma can be awarded at Distinction, Merit or Pass.

Unit 1 Investigating the Travel and Tourism Sector
Unit 2 The Business of Travel and Tourism
Unit 3 The UK as a Destination
Unit 4 Customer Service in Travel and Tourism

Optional specialist

Unit 6 Preparing for Employment in Travel and Tourism
Unit 7 European Destinations

Assessment is through coursework produced for each unit. There are no written examinations.

Outside the classroom

Work experience is essential in the Travel and Tourism industry in order to see the vast opportunities this course has to offer.

Progression pathway and careers

Employment in the Travel and Tourism industry or entry to Higher Education

This course prepares you for a career in Travel services, Catering, Air Cabin Crew, Hotels and Resort, Travel agencies and much more.
