PE

The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have - Vince Lombardi

Core PE

Students have 1 lesson a week of core PE.  Students decide upon the curriculum they would like to follow from a series of options.  All are varied and reflect the interests of the students.  There is more emphasis placed upon competition, for those that want it. Equally, students can decide upon a curriculum that emits competition and focuses on physical activity for a healthy lifestyle.

Course outline:

GCSE PE

3 lessons each week (2 theory and 1 practical)

Exam board Edexcel http://qualifications.pearson.com/en/qualifications/edexcel-gcses/physical-education-2009.html

In the practical lessons students will cover a variety of sports and physical activities to become competent and skilled in four different activities. Students will be assessed throughout the year and a practical moderation will take place at the end of the second year. The practical side makes up 60% of the marks and includes a personal exercise programme, an analysis of performance and an assessment of tactics and strategies.

Theory focuses on healthy, active lifestyles, anatomy, physiology and personal exercise. In June of Year 11 there is a 90 minute, 90 mark exam. This makes up 40% of the overall grade.
