Media Studies

You cannot escape the influence of the media, but you can learn to see past its façade - Robert Greene

It is a truly contemporary subject which is relevant to all our students’ lives. The media saturates everything we do in the developed world in the 21st Century. In Media Studies, we learn to analysis media texts and how they are constructed.  We can then use this to inform our own media production.  The subject is a mix of theory and practical production.

Students have 3 lessons a week

At KS4 students will learn the basics of media analysis and will use this to complete three controlled assessments, which combine media analysis and media production. For the end of course exam, students will study a specialist topic. In the past, topics have included Video Game Promotion, Crime Drama and Science Fiction Films.

The course at KS4 equips the students with a number of analytical and deeper thinking skills and creative practical skills including film making and editing, photography and web design
